Ep. 26: A History of Christian Anti-Semitism Part 2

In this podcast we detail a shortened version of the shameful history of Christian anti-semitism over the last 500 years. We learn about the ruthless Portuguese Inquisition; the decrepit ghettos of Italy; the horrific massacres of Chmielnitsky in Poland, Lithuania and Ukraine; the Pale of Settlement and the various gruesome pogroms in Russia, and survey the current landscape of Christian anti-Semitism in Israel and the United States.

SHOW NOTES:

Prayer is a comprehensive part of the Jewish day. We pray for amaterial, spiritual, physical, and health matters, we pray for the community, for individuals, we pray for our families and ourselves. In this podcast we address a fundamental philosophical problem with prayer: If someone is sick we pray for them. Who made them sick? The Almighty! If someone is going to die, who is overseeing this? God! Who are we to try to intervene? In our attempt to unravel this knotty question we explore the nexus of man’s  free will confronting the dominion of the Omnipotent God.

Ep. 24: Great Jewish Personalities: Rambam (Maimonides)

“From Moshe till Moshe no one arose like Moshe”

This epithet is engraved on the tombstone of Rabbi Moshe Ben Maimon, better known as Rambam or Maimonides, and sheds light on the enormity of his impact and influence upon the Jewish people. The mere claim that the Rambam’s contributions and leadership was surpassed only by Moshe Rabbeinu is a testament to his remarkable accomplishments. In this podcast we tell the story of his life, personality and towering literary achievements that are still relevant more than 800 years after his passing.

The Emunah Migration

The sources are in agreement that cognitive and intellectual faith alone is insufficient. To properly fulfill his requirements, man must find a way to have the Emunah penetrate into his behavior and perspective. Why is this so critical and how it is done?

Ep. 23: Great Jewish Personalities: Rashi

The era succeeding the Geonic Era is the Era of the Rishonim. During this time, the Ashkenazic (Germanic) and Sephardic (Spanish) communities were separated due to the geopolitical instability resulting from the constant wars between the Muslims and Christians. For several generations, each community flourished and developed independent, and largely unaware, of the other. Both communities gave us Torah giants who revolutionized the world with their character and works. The greatest of the Ashkenazic Rishonim, and the foremost commentator on Talmud and Tanach, was Rabbi Shlomo Yitzchaki, known the world over by his acronym – Rashi.

Tetzaveh – Holy Vestaments

In Parshas Tetzaveh the Torah outlines the various garments needed for the Kohein Gadol, the instruction to raise the funds for the oil for the Menorah, and the incense Altar. What are some practical lessons we can draw from these special clothes?
