Parshas Vayeira (Rebroadcast)

This week’s parsha features several iconic episodes: Abraham was visited by God as he was recuperating from his circumcision, and concurrently engaged in superlative kindness with three angels masquerading as pagan travelers; Abraham was informed that the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah were about to be destroyed and was unsuccessful in interceding on their behalf; and we also read the two Torah sections that are read on the two days of Rosh Hashana: The episode of the birth of Isaac and the subsequent banishment of Ishmael, and the story of the Binding of Isaac.

Lech Lecha – A Lot of Testing

Abraham was the most consequential human in all of history. He began the process of fixing the world and humanity. Amid a cesspool of idolatry, Abraham emerged as a beacon of faith. When the entire world had forgotten about its Creator, Abraham restored faith in God to the world. Our Parsha follows Abraham in his journey. How did the son of a idol wholesaler from the city of Ur become the father of many nations? What was the process by which Abraham became the greatest giant among people? Why didn’t any of Abraham’s relatives join him for this journey? In this very special podcast we accompany Abraham along his fateful Odyssey, noting the various stages of his journey, learning what it entailed and why others weren’t quite up to the task.

This Parsha Podcast for Parshas Lech Lecha is dedicated in honor of my dear friend and dedicated listener of the Parsha Podcast, Dr. David Genecov, whose Torah portion for his bar Mitzvah was Parshas Lech Lecha. On behalf of the entire Parsha Podcast family, we wish him many happy, joyous, healthful and harmonious returns to Parshas Lech Lecha and may the Almighty bestow upon him endless blessings.

Lech Lecha – Go West, Young Man (5781)

Abraham is the Torah’s first protagonist. The entirety of this parsha and the subsequent one are following the forefather of our nation. Why does the Torah spend so much time telling the story of this ancient figure? In this life-changing episode, we study Abraham’s odyssey to find the precise guidelines to fulfill our latent potential. This podcast episode is designed to change your life. I hope it succeeds.

The Secret of the Month of Cheshvan with Rabbi Shmuly Botnick

Each of the twelve months in the Jewish calendar contain a unique spiritual energy and power. The power of each month, encapsulated in a zodiac sign, is often represented in the holidays, festivals, and noteworthy days of said month. The month that just concluded, Tishrei, is jam packed with days of note: Rosh Hashana, Yom Kippur, Sukkot, Shemini Atzeres, Simchas Torah. The month that we are just beginning, Cheshvan, contains no obvious days of import. But every month has its secrets and mysteries. In this special edition of the podcast, we invited Rabbi Shmuly Botnick to take us on a journey to the depths of the month of Cheshvan. Boy, did he deliver!

Bereishis – Cain’s Discovery

Welcome to Year Seven (!) of The Parsha Podcast. Each week will feature, with the help of the Almighty, three episodes, two ones from previous years and a new one: On Sunday, the Parsha Rebroadcast that covers the whole Parsha in about an hour will be released. On Tuesday, we will release the episode from 2 years ago, from the Fifth cycle of the Parsha podcast, in the Jewish year 5781. On Thursday, we will release a brand new episode that will raise your Parsha IQ…and your general intelligence.

In this first episode of the new year, we study the sad, tragic, and shocking episode of fratricide, and specifically hone in on God’s comfort of Cain. What we learn can completely transform our lives.

The Sukkos/Shemini Atzeres Revelation

The Sukkah that we dwell in for 7 days is a reenactment of the Clouds of Glory that enshrouded the nation for 40 years. Starting right after the Exodus, the nation was cocooned in miraculous clouds. These clouds flattened mountains, filled in valleys, and eliminated any threats. The clouds signal journeys, cleaned and ironed clothes, and blanketed the nation with defensive invisibility against their enemies. How exactly our sukkah resembles the clouds of Glory is a great mystery. In this very special podcast, we propose a novel approach to understanding the festival of Sukkot, the sukkah, and what exactly we are supposed to achieve over the course of this 7-Day festival and the Shemini Atzeres endcap.
