In his last act, Jacob gathers his sons and offers each of the twelve a blessing. To us, however, it does not seem that the first three received a blessing at all. Reuben was castigated for being impetuous and consequently he was stripped of his role as king and priest, and Simon and Levi were reprimanded as using the stolen craft of violence from Esau and punished by being scattered among the nations. In answering these questions we can learn a vital Mussar lesson that can guide our spiritual journey.
This lecture was recorded live in Harrisburg, PA as part of a three-lecture visit to the capital of Pennsylvania.
