Why God Told Abraham to Slaughter Isaac

Abraham is presented in different lights throughout Jewish literature. Traditionally, he is the founder of monotheism and the father of the religions that espouse it. The Torah presents him not as a figure of faith but as a paragon of kindness. Paradoxically, Abraham acts in a supremely unkind fashion by banishing Ishmael and attempting filicide in the binding of Isaac episode. To complicate matters further, the Talmud makes several seemingly incomprehensible statements regarding Abraham’s scholarship. In this podcast we enumerate six core questions about Abraham and build a character profile of his greatness that answers all the questions.
